As I mentioned before, I just bought an iMac G5 1.6 Ghz machine which based on Apple specifications, requires PC3200 (400 Mhz) RAM. While looking at different options, I realized that I had a machine at home that had DDR RAM. After using a tool that reports the hardware specifications of the computer, I looked at the report and noticed that the computer has 2 Kingston DDR PC3200 RAM with a reporting speed of 200 Mhz. So now what, can I use a PC3200 (200 Mhz) if Apple’s specifications require PC3200 (400 Mhz) ?
After looking at different forums, I found this explanation that seems logical:
“ PC3200 DDR RAM runs at a FSB speed of 200 Mhz. Since it is a Double Data rate (DDR) RAM, it runs internally at double the speed of the FSB, thus at 400 Mhz internally.”
